What stand-up specials have been tickling your funny bones? What podcasts have got you punching the wall? Don't talk about TV or movie comedy tho.

gary gulman has a new special in netflix and everyone should watch it.
the new w. kamau bell is pre essential too.
and as much as I struggle with some of his views these days, the new patton is (mostly) quite solid, definitely better than his last one. I did see some of this material live tho so biases probably exist.
im sure theres more but I find it hard to keep track of everything stand-up. any recs would be much appreciated, especially of 2016 stuff

like I don't think it can get much worse than Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time for big name stand up. But yeah, have heard mostly good stuff about the new one. Starting to fall behind on big releases because of seeing local stuff a lot.

Does seeing it live really matter when you watch the special? cuz I saw Posehn do some stuff for his "The Fartist" special and remember thinking it was hilarious live but watching the special it was v hard to get through at points.

well patton live was definitely funnier anyway, alot more riffing, felt looser and more willing to engage the audience and all that.
BUT yeah I think just having had enjoyed the material in the moment like that, for me anyway, gave it a special context. not that it made it funnier, just Means More I suppose than if I had only seen the special because I got to experience it in that context.

gary gulman rules. his new special is really good and in this economy? is even better. hannibal's comedy camisado was pretty good although it doesn't come close to the greatness of animal furnace. would also recommend eddie pepitone's in ruins if that's your thing. my sister saw louis ck live a couple nights ago and i'm super jealous. she says it was amazing, can't wait for his next special.
listened to natasha leggero's coke money last night and thought it was really unfunny. i've always liked her on cbb and another period and i thought she was good on the justin bieber roast, but man her stand-up is not good.
been working my way through the comedy bang bang archives for a year now and i'm almost to episode 200 and i love it. some of the episodes are dull but it's worth it for the moments of brilliance. ditto wtf. also been enjoying this season of never not funny but i'm a few weeks behind. love jimmy pardo.

I saw Pepitone when he was in town a couple months back and holy shit just so much presence. Never had cynicism/deconstruction of a joke land so hard. He is a master for a reason I guess. The opener was also really cool. He's a local comic i'll link some of his stuff if he's got decent stuff on youtube.
